Markus, funnily, Heinlein is my next-to-read/quote novel ... however, I really don't take this too serious, since - I can sit back, blame someone else and simply wait for the service to return - unlike in my every day life. ;-)
Hard to complain too much about a free service--free and worth it? It's been a long time since there was a major Blogger problem so I think we could say it's free and more than worth it...
Carl, I never experienced a major problem, sometimes some minor glitches .. so .. and this reminds me to properly archive the photographs and backup the blog every other .... month ;-). Hm, perhaps I should do this right now ...
Carl, Martina: It's not really free, you just don't pay money for it. Google profits from your and your visitors' data. For them, the cost/profit ratio certainly is o.k.
That said, I too have the impression that the blogger service is really reliable - I follow it for 5 years now, and this is the first time that I notice a downtime of more than several hours.
This is more a daily feed than a daily blog.
Photos are resized or may be cropped - that's the only post-processing I do.
The quotes: it is essential to me to only quote from things I am currently reading ... I must admit it is sometimes lopsided ... reading a 1000 page novel takes some time ;-)

Hmm - in one word: tanstaafl!
But it's just envy: DIY-blogging absorbs a lot of time.
