I love these graffiti pieces you did. I have a friend who does graffiti art and I also took an art history class on graffiti. So many people dont see the beauty in that art. You really captured it very well!

I like this but fear it was done in a place it shouldn't be.

A nice pair with yesterday's post.

This one really translates well into black & white. I almost think that different shades would be distracting. Was the original in colour?

I do not see much hope in those eyes.

There are many streets, and many walls, where their graffiti is the best thing going for them. The only thing that loves them.

Lindsay, thank you. Yes, I think I will do a little graffiti series - sometimes I lack of motivation to blog any longer and doing some kind of small project works wonders, ;-). To me graffiti is always about creativity, using your environment in a creative way (opposite to destruction - I know that many people consider graffiti/streetart as destructive) - many of them make me smile, make me think, make me giggle. I first came in contact with graffiti having a part-time job at a highschool as the school magazine's editor-in-chief. We did one graffiti edition and I learned much about the history, the motivation etc..

Paula, in fact I think this is a legal graffiti - was kind of a undercrossing at London's South Bank, with some live sprayers and writers (that's why I think it is not illegal) during the day.

Joan Elizabeth, thank you - I will doing graffiti posts now until everyone gets bored, ;-).

kobico, yes, all my photos are original coloured photos. At first I thought it won't work - graffiti of this kind often work because of the extreme colours, but with these expressive eyes I gave it a try. I don't know why, the coloured version feels sharper, this one is kind of smooth.

Julie, yes, it was the sad look in the eyes that attracted me, normally I prefer the more abstract graffiti. With your comment you exactly express the feelings of many of the sprayers and writers I think.

Please show us more Martina!
