Julie, perhaps the bird had just an itchy back and that's why there is so much feathery stuff.
In fact it is a really small feather, about 5cm long, and very delicate twigs. It is the only photo I took during a walk on Sunday and I was astonished that it came out okay - white feather against gray sky, windy ... did I mention the German November weather already? :-S
This is more a daily feed than a daily blog.
Photos are resized or may be cropped - that's the only post-processing I do.
The quotes: it is essential to me to only quote from things I am currently reading ... I must admit it is sometimes lopsided ... reading a 1000 page novel takes some time ;-)

Of course there was... but you did not need to show it. Very nice!!!!
Nice detail. You can almost feel the feather's wispy touch.
great photo, i subscribe to AB's words...
Whenever I see a stray feather I photograph it too. They are at their best when hanging on in the wind like this one.
But there are other bits of feathery stuff wrapped around the branch. As though this bird came to some sort of sticky end - death by branch.
a very fine work!
I was thinking it was a beautiful composition, and then I read Julie's comment, thought it was more somber than I originally imagined.
How fortuitous - for us.
