Mary is a bit raw for me. I haven't heard of this book, I guess I'll have to try again.

We may not be as safe walking alone as we once were.

Paula, raw as in ... ? I think this is the first time I read Gaitskill, it's a short story, published in the New Yorker free to read .

helen, I suppose nowadays someone would call the police seeing a kid walking alone ... at night ...

Paula, thanks for this. In the meantime I have read a little bit about Mary Gaitskill and her work. Fearless is a very good description. Raw, too. I am not sure if I will read "Veronica", perhaps too raw for me, too.

Paul, that's a good advice nowadays around here.
