By coincidence, one of the books I'm reading right now is titled Le Poids d'Une Âme -- I read several books at a time because I leave them at random places around the house so I can just pick one up when I get the urge to read. If I have to leave the room, I may be sidetracked!
I am not sure if it is visible that "mon" is overpainted with "ton" - since it is the same style I would guess this was the artist's work and intention.

I am usually stuck with one book/novel but I have a "New Yorker" issue in almost every room, ;-) .And the one or other coffee table photo book to browse :-D
I like the idea of this graffiti series. Just not sure about the use of B&W for most of them. The "I heart Mama" works because it is only print. However, the others are font and grasphics and colour ... and the colour is missed, at least by my eye.
This one works really well in the sepia and is the standout, which may not have been the case had the others been in their original colour.
Julie, yes, I was not sure if this would work. I thought something like "hm, graffiti, they live through their colours. this won't work". But when I started playing around I found out that in b/w my eye is drawn to other aspects of the graffiti - mostly the outlines, I started to read the tags, the words. After reading your comment I had another look at the graffiti I have chosen and realised that many of them are not that colourful - mostly consisting of two or three colours. In the end I am not that unsatisfied with this little experiment.

ReplyDeleteI like the way this image is cropped, Martina. And yes, colour can distract the eye rather than focus it. I like these graffiti treatments.
