Are they plaing some game? Or just lost anything? Are the friends or just met in their daily walk? There ae plenty of questions in the image.
You realy catch the moment!

Yes, a passerby like me will also think the men are looking for something, or what? Very nice post by baffling us!! Clever, indeed.

Old gentlemen...thinking about life. Love it!

Maybe when we're all old and retired from blogging we'll meet in the park and look at our feet so younger bloggers will have enough material.

Or maybe one is saying "hey, did you see that lizard scampering across the path?!?"

Ooo a mystery ... what are they looking at.

This is fantastic Martina.... well captured. Looking at it I feel like I need to move the edge of my seat... what is it... what happened next... the guy with the glasses on the right keeps wanting to come into my view on this photograph... what is with him, I think he has an alterior motive, he is not merely a viewer, he is up to something... he knows more than he lets on and I dont like it one bit.... they need to get that thing off the ground and make a run for it, otherwise suffer the consequences from the guy who knows everything with the glasses... .even the other two know more than the two looking at "the thing".... they are too casual for my liking here... you may need to run and hide Martina, you have captured a moment which may become valuable in time, but for now, keep it, save it and know, that you have recorded it for prosperity... and you have them on record..... great shot!

Sean said it all. With his comment he gave the most perfect description of retired French men playing petanque.

:-)

I was also wondering about the two guys because usually the big discussions happen at the end of the petanque lane (? hm, alley?) where the boules and the jack are. Perhaps they are discussing if the feet are in the right or wrong position?

Martina... help me out here... is this what they are playing here:

???????????????

Sean, yes, I think so. The player who is throwing seems to stand still, so it is not boule.
It is a very popular game not only in France but in Germany too, and I suppose in Switzerland etc. Even in London I have seen people playing petanque and not lawn bowls as I expected ;-)

The guys who were playing it in my pic didnt seem to be "Swiss" so I guess your theory is correct..... still love your photograph by the way..... :) Thanks for the explanation!

The one time I don't look at the enlargement...Petanque players take things very seriously, no wonder they're so focused.

I squint but I see no pétanque balls on the ground. I guess they must be looking at the small jack ball and pondering strategy. At first, I thought they were looking at the result of a coin toss.

Paula, even in the original size photo there is no hint to petanque, ;-).

I just had a look at it, because,
AB thought they might be looking at the jack or at a tossed coin, but there is nothing to be seen. That's why I thought they might be discussing where the player has to put his feet, ;-)

Pessoas em P&B produzem um efeito muito bonito. Enhorabuena.

You're right, there's nothing in the photo but there is the name of the photo. Dead give away.
