For some people there is dignity in solitude: they carry their sense of inner self quietly whether alone or in company.
My man was dignified although alone. He was also sad. To me he was sad. It was to do with occupying just half of the bench: as though he was used to sitting with another. Also the stoop to his shoulders. If he had just been sitting in the sun, i would have expected his arms to be out and back along the back of the bench. It was a glorious mid winter's day of 26C. As I walked back along the gravel path, he passed me and kicked up a pace making for the incoming ferry.
What I WAS going to say, is how I like the European habit of games in parks: chess, and boules. But invariably men ...
Julie, I think I read in a travelguide to Southern France that especially boule/petanque are men's games and women are an unwelcome sight. Hmmpf. Nevertheless I like petanque, it is played in Germany as well - as long as it is not raining ... ;-). And in Germany both sexes play :-)
This time we have a café table when the people are still there, and we can even see what their meeting is about. Now, we only have to guess who won the chess match.
This is more a daily feed than a daily blog.
Photos are resized or may be cropped - that's the only post-processing I do.
The quotes: it is essential to me to only quote from things I am currently reading ... I must admit it is sometimes lopsided ... reading a 1000 page novel takes some time ;-)

There certainly can be solitude when playing chess.

So can you have solitude when in company of others?
Julie's blog today has a person sitting alone. Is his solitude dignified?
Interesting things to think about.
