Joan Elizabeth, this specific type of helmet always frightened me, even as a child. The wooden sculpture of an armoured knight is located in a small medieval town that is proud of having been the family seat of a more or less well known German noble lineage (1200 AD - long dead).
Robert, in the short story it says something in the line of "don't trust someone who looks over your head" ...
Daniel, yes, as I have said to Joan Elizabeth, these are scary helmets. But - now as I look at the photo again, with his hunched shoulders he looks like me these days: freezing.
Love this one. An intriguing photo and with that quote it becomes quite sinister.
