    Joan Elizabeth, in the 80's there was a campaign with billboards etc. all over Germany regarding recycling of cans, the motto was "I was a can" ("Ich war eine Dose") - unfortunately I cannot find some pics. Usually they showed something totally different that was said to be made of recycled cans. Nowadays "Ich war eine Dose" is a kind of running gag for all kind of occasions. Just came to my mind reading your question, ;-).
