Paula and to all who might be interested: Neal Stephenson plays with the word "Confusion" and all its meanings: confusion in cryptology, confusion as a state of being scatterbrained and con-fusion as in lat. confundere "to pour together", hence Alchemy. At least these are the meanings I recognized so far, ;-).
